Firemen, Star Wars, and "Betty"

Today was a very social day for us :)

It started this morning by meeting Noah's classmate Justin and his older brother TJ and parents Eboni and Thomas at Home Depot to build and paint fire rescue planes for national Fire Prevention Week. Not only did we have fun with the planes; the kids all got to sit in the fire truck, experience a simulated fire emergency escape in a specially designed trailer, eat cotton candy and pop corn, and take home some free LEGOs!

After an hour or so we headed home for some lunch with the intention of heading over to the library for "Star Wars Reads Day II", but when we get home we find out that the library's website lists a story time 15 minutes earlier than we'd anticipated showing up. So we scarf down lunch and head over there to meet David and Alexis and their mom Tess as well as Jonathan and Hanna and their parents Jen and Phil for the reading of a few Star Wars books, only to find the librarians have no idea what we're talking about (it was definitely listed on their website). Instead, we helped the kids make light sabers out of neon posterboard, cut out masks of Storm Troopers and other Star Wars characters, and (attempt to) make "droids" out of small cardboard boxes and recycled materials. Once we got to the kids area to make the droids the "Star Wars Yoga" class was just being dismissed and was Justin and his family again!

Unfortunately by that point Noah was suffering pretty badly from a case of the "crankies" so we had to say our good-byes and head home for nap-time.

Today was national "Apple Betty" day. Kristi made it for dessert with whip-cream made from scratch. It was so terrible that I choked it down as fast as I could (actually it was fantastic: I suddenly looked down and I'd eaten the whole thing) while watching the end of the Minnesota @ Michigan football game.

All-in-all, it was great to meet some new friends and meet up with some old friends. I think everyone had a pretty good time together and we look forward to doing it again soon.
