Fire, Hippos and Smores!

What do the three things in the title all have in common?  They were part of this rainy Saturday in Michigan :)  Our grand plans were foiled yet again by the weather today.  Grant and I had hoped to take the kiddos to the Toledo Zoo for the "Fun Fur All" they were having today, but we woke up to rain, rain and a forecast of more rain for the day.  So we improvised!

When Grandpa Gary was here he brought some Jeffery dollars (Toys 'r Us gift cards) that were probably from the early 90's :-p  He told us they were all ours and we should see if Toys R Us would still accept them.  So Grant and the kids went over with the plan to get a game we could all play together.  God Bless Toys R Us, they still worked!  So Hungry Hippos it was!

Since it was so gloomy we decided to test out the fireplace for our first fire of the season.  Grant expertly built a beautiful fire that made things a little more cheerful.  What is better then the smell of the first fire of the fall?  So before lunch we broke out some Hungry Hungry Hippos and enjoyed the fire in the library.

After lunch I got out the fixings for smores and put one together for each of the kiddos and Grant.  Noah and Mikayla were ridiculously excited about making a marshmallow mess.  You'll have to check out the pictures to see what I mean.

We got in some Chutes and Ladders and a whole mess of games of Candyland before lunch.  After naps we all enjoyed watching the Wolverines kick some Illini tail and I had fun in the kitchen putting together an apple strudel for breakfast tomorrow.  Then in order to get some Daddy and kiddo time in before he leaves for his trip on Monday Grant decided to take them to see Ice Age: Continental Drift.  Now the kiddos are snuggly tucked into bed while Grant and I are enjoying the 3-0 Tigers lead in the 8th inning of Game 1 of the ALCS.  Here's hoping they can hold on to it.
The kiddos patiently watched while Grant built up the fire

 What a gorgeous fire!

 Hungry hungry hungry hungry

Does this face have 'devilish' written all over it or what?

  1. Adorable! We don't have a fireplace, but we have two wood burning stoves, and it never dawned on me to try and use it to roast marshmallows! I am going to try to make s'mores with my kids tonight. Thanks for the inspiration. I hope my little monsters are as happy as your sweeties. :)
