Alaska: The Last Frontier

Welcome to Alaska Week!  We spent our evening putting up our "Alaska Wall" and learning all the most pressing facts; State BirdTree and Flower just to name a few.  Grant was able to join us this time and we talked about everything from the Northern Lights, to the Iditarod Race to the Alaskan Pipeline.  My little sponges sucked up the knowledge with much enthusiasm. For dinner tonight (much to Kayla's delight) we had an Alaskan Crab Quiche (I substituted crab in this recipe because we are having salmon later in the week, FYI) and then munch on some Alaska Fry Bread while we fleshed out the wall.  Welcome to "The Last Frontier"!

In other news today the Bean had her four year check up.  I'm pleased to tell you she's doing splendidly!  31.8 lbs (25th percentile) and 39 1/2 inches (25th percentile) so apparently she's going to be short and skinny like her Mama.  There are worse things.  She also got 4 (yes 4) shots today and was a total ROCK STAR about it - not a single tear!  I was so impressed.

The rest of the day has been crammed full of errands, laundry, work and the makings of any other normal Monday around here.  I'm helping in the Bean's class in the morning (please no scissors, please no scissors) and am looking forward to it.  And tomorrow we're FINALLY going to get to open the package from Alaska.  Until then...

Alaska Fun Fact of the Day:  Nearly 1/3 of Alaska lies within the Arctic Circle.
