Today was ridiculously hot - well into the 90's and we saw the forecast for storms later in the day. But no worries - we'd be bowling! So some of our party came over earlier this evening for dinner and then we were off to the alleys for the party that Noah has been anticipating for weeks.
We were only a few frames in the first time it happened - a power flicker. We temporarily lost the score screens for awhile, but they came back. The kids (and there were a lot of them!) all handled it really well. Then - darkness. We did a kiddo headcount and within about 30 seconds or so it came back. Again the kiddos all did really well with it. But it was about this point that we lost the screens and the ability to keep score for good. Many thanks to everyone that was there for rolling with it and being troopers. Because no more than 5 minutes later the alleys went dark. For good. After I giving it ten minutes or so, we realized it was probably out for good (most of Farmington is currently without power) and put the kibosh on the party. I swear I could not in a million years have predicted this one.
And I'm at a loss at what more to say! Noah is crushed, even though everyone reassured him they had a great time and it was something that they will never forget. Thanks to everyone who came - and for being such sports about the whole thing! I think that pretty much sums it up- I'm sitting here trying to decide if I should laugh or cry at this point. What a night! Back tomorrow, so until then...
