You put the avocado in the cookie...

Another day in Michigan, more snow. Imagine that.  I refuse to complain TOO much though, as I know we didn't get nearly as barely as those just a bit further south of us.  Mom told me this morning that Fremont probably had between 8-9 inches.  It was enough to make things messy around here, though this morning.  Grant said the roads were fine when he left for work after 7, but by the time I took Noah to the bus around quarter 'til nine it was super messy.  We waited 25 minutes after the bus was supposed to arrive before I finally threw in the towel and decided to drive him to school.  I managed to get myself stuck backing out of the driveway of the house that the bus stop is at.  Fortunately the Dad helped me out an I ended up taking Noah and his son to school in exchange.  A typical 4 minute drive took nearly 15.  Ick!  And I heard that one of the bus' was over an hour late to school because it had been rear ended on its route.  (Everyone was safe!).  So I'm ready for the snow to be over whenever.

I was supposed to have a meeting this morning but after my harrowing drive to school I decided I'd be best served not being on the roads this morning.  So the Bean (who has been wearing her sunglasses all day, no joke) and I came back and played in the kitchen.  We made some really fun California Avocado Oatmeal Cookies that tasted almost as good as they smelled.  Avocados are a huge export in California and are found through out many of the styles of cuisine.  It was fun to work them into a dessert.  The Bean also used her pizza dough from yesterday to make her own lunch. She then helped me make the Baja Grilled Chicken Wrap filling for dinner.  Everyone here really liked these tonight (especially Grant) and I finally got to break out my indoor grill that I bought a few weeks ago.  Yay!  She then mentioned that she wanted potato chips and could we make them.  So out came the mandolin to slice potatoes and then into the deep fryer to see what we could come up with.  Mikayla decided they were better than the ones from the store!

Tonight we worked on our "We've Been There" state of California, and as you'll see, I'm actually the only one who's been to California.  I got to go to San Diego in college and even made a day trip up to Los Angeles.  I had to assure Mikayla I did NOT meet Cinderella while I was there unfortunately.

On an unrelated California note, but an update on the upcoming Olympics, last night at dinner we discussed the overall theme song and each of our individual songs (to march into and for medal presentations.  Think of these as our anthems) were going to be.  They totally crack me up, so if you're curious:

Theme for the Olympics: "Counting Stars" by One Republic
Grant: "Joker and The Thief" by Wolfmother
Kristi: "Happy" by Pharrell Williams (From Despicable Me 2)
Noah: "Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band
Mikayla: "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid"

Not sure what tomorrow looks like but I'm hoping it doesn't involve any more white stuff...  We'll be happy either way, though.  So until then...

California Fun Fact of the Day:  Fallbrook is known as the Avocado Capital of the World and hosts an annual Avocado Festival. More avocados are grown in the region than any other county in the nation.

This is how she was decked out all day
